Foods and beverages sold to students through the district’s child nutrition program, student stores, vending machines and fundraisers meet or exceed state and federal nutrition standards. The free conference will run from 9 a.m. to 12 noon in the ECHS Truax Theatre. A continental breakfast and lunch will be provided. The conference is open to the public. Click Men’s Rally for more information. teacher honored by state!Christina De Santo, ELD instructor and Activities Director at Chavez Middle School, has been selected as the recipient of the Outstanding Service Award by the California Association of Directors of Activities. A 15-year veteran of the district, Christina was chosen by her peers for exemplifying leadership and improving the quality of student activities for Chavez MS students. She recently received her award at the 49th annual state conference in San Diego. Last year Christina was named the Region 9 Educator of the Year by the California League of Middle Schools (CLMS). Cougar Staff Gets Grants for Programs!Christina DeSanto received a grant from the David and Dorris Staples Foundation for $2388 to purchase non-fiction literature for her struggling readers. Christina DeSanto and Cindy Johnson both received grants from CalRTA. Ms. DeSanto will be using her grant money to purchase a class set of Grayson. Mrs. Johnson will be using her grant money to support technology in her classroom. Thanks CalRTA! Mrs. Johnson received $1,000 grant to assist with the Chavez Washington DC Trip. Mrs. Hamilton received a $300 grant for the Chavez Art Club. Both grants were from the Coastal Community Foundation. Thanks CCF! Congratulations, to Cindi Donaldson on her grant of $700 for her work with the PLUS Program, and to Cindy Torrez for a grant of $350 to introduce students to a public library, to cover the cost of transportation to the Oceanside Public Library. Christina DeSanto received a $1,650 grant from the Current Wisdom Foundation to take her leadership students to a leadership conference at the Del Mar Fairgrounds in November 2012. Cindi Donaldson received a $2,100 grant from the Current Wisdom Foundation to attend leadership training with the ASB team in Del Mar. Way to go Cougars! |
